February 13, 2011 - Essex Pilots Fly to Frederick, MD for Breakfast

 Yesterday -- Saturday -- I got together with Cuban and Jolly for some formation work.  The weather was better than forecast.  It was actually pretty smooth between 3000-5000 feet.  We rotated the lead so all of us got work as #2 and #3.  It's been about a year since we started and its amazing how far we've come.  We all know what we're doing and can comfortably do all the maneuvers.  It's fun.  But I must say it was pretty darn cold in the hangar at 7:30 AM!  The winds had picked up when I arrived back overhead Essex Skypark.  I landed with probably the strongest crosswind I have yet encountered in the RV but the RV handled it well. 

Today, Sunday, the  Essex Skypark pilots were heading west to Frederick for our montly breakfast flight.   It was a little warmer today.  There was a high overcast but the flying conditions were good -- the visibility was excellent. 

We had a good turnout:  five planes and nine people.  Bruce flew with me in the RV.

Bruce and I are just to the west of Frederick Airport, which has an on-field restaurant.  AOPA headquarters are also located here.  Frederick has always been a very busy airport; they are finally putting in a Tower.  Construction has started to the right of runway running top to bottom  (5/23).
